more junque from a warped mind

Yesterday, I stopped at Michael's doing my usual "what if" plan. Came upon an embossing plate for paper on sale. So, my mind thought it might make a good piece for acrylic casting. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. So, came home, sprayed with silicone spray, waited a bit and then cast a small area with clear acrylic medium with a drop of liquid mirror added. Today I took it up and it worked beautifully. So, here are the results.

Now to put it to use.

Howard,

the simplest things can be an "AHHA" moment.

I have looked for and will try again for a silicone spray.

TY for reminding me of this tract in my thinking.

EXCELLENT POST

ps what brand, what store? price?

Hey my husband works at an Ace Hardware...lucky me. I'm going to ask him about the silicone because I find the result of your experiment amazing and I want to try it out too. Thanks for the great idea.

The mind's not warped - just thinks laterally - and comes up with interesting results

Re: more junque from a warped mind

It is a two piece plate with a positive image on one plate and a negative image on the other. Paper is placed in between, has to be moist, then it is pressed to emboss the paper surface. The paper is allowed to dry and it has the selected texture permanently in the surface.

Turned out very cool and if your mind is warped then I need some warping ..haha

You always come up with such interesting effects and processes.

Re: more junque from a warped mind

Hey Howard!

U R very patient with the redundancy of some of this stuff. Thanx.

another question. If I succesfully make a mold of say a Nickel in ahhh.. gel medium. Can I use that repeatedly by spraying silicone in it and pouring soft cadmiums into the mold? I should be able to pull a positive of the coin....trim it...clean and adhere it into a painting?

Re: more junque from a warped mind

I would be cautious about reproducing coins, there may be some federal regulations in there. I would use a two part silicon molding material, available at Michaels Crafts, make the mold, spray when cured and then make the coins. I have done it with a double dragon coin and found it worked well.

Here is a video.
