Re: Lost

I find this piece incredibly fascinating for some reason! I have studied it closely, trying to find the flaw you think is there, but am striking out. Seriously, I have looked hard. I ask myself, "If she changes this or that, will it make the painting better or just different?" My answer is "just different" to each thing, but not better. The alternate reality, mystery, and interesting story make you look closely at each detail, trying to draw out the meaning of each element. I am with Debzy on this one though. I don't want you to change anything. Sign it and be proud of it. I absolutely love it.

Re: Lost

Hi Greg
The question that you've posed is actually a very good one for self-referencing a work. It's made me think. Sometimes you (read 'me' here) reach a point where you think you've finished and then you agitate to find the 'bits' that you can fiddle with - and in the end does this actually progress the painting, make it better?

Someone once said to me (about finishing a painting) that 'you need to know when to stop'. Still trying to work that one out!!

Thank you for taking the time to look closely and elicit some meaning. It's really good to have others' viewpoints on what, if any, ideas are being conveyed to them.

And I've checked out your website. What a body of work you have! The woman on the balcony - what a beautifully rich work - WOW!

Cheers
Round

Re: Lost

It's very decorative, but my eye is constantly drawn to the bird at the base. I think it's the black which doesn't appear elsewhere, maybe putting a bit of a contrasting colour on the frame of the miniature would balance it more. Love the weird plants.
