Hi all, I’m a watercolor painter making the switch to oils. This is my first try and I think I’m really going to enjoy oils. Quite an adjustment for me, but I used water miscible paints to ease the transition.

https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/brad-schulze.htmlFebruary 2, 2019 at 6:13 am #774429well oils won’t be a problem. i don’t recognise the attire so first association was, you’ve time travelled for some plein air. you’re letting it dry before highlights, right? It’s intriguing, warm, humorous, a really good portrait.
C&C welcome
February 2, 2019 at 12:06 pm #774426Thank you! Yes, it’s from a very old photo, and no I didn’t let it dry, it was basically all wet on wet- some of it pretty thickly with a palette knife.

Solvent = Leaner Oil = Fatter Drawing is the basis of art. A bad painter cannot draw. But one who draws well can always paint. (Arshile Gorky)February 4, 2019 at 11:42 pm #774427Thank you very much! Yes, I’m excited to continue working in oils, I like the rich colors.
