Some detail of the cowboy and his horse.

        Another image under different/better lighting.

This is my first go at creating a composition from nothing. I used some references for the cloud shaping and the cowboy & horse, but the rest was composited in photoshop prior to painting. I also tried limiting my palette for the first time, and went for a purple tone to the scene. I hope that comes through. No yellows or greens were used – just a mix of reds, blues, burnt umber, and white.

Hi Bhamhawker, and welcome! I like this painting a lot – the purple tones do shine through, and the composition is really nice! It has a good sense of depth and space, as well. Good grasses, especially! Well done. I hope we see more of your work.

Love the colors of this painting – that cloud looks so ominous! A real beauty!

I love the colors and the stormy sky in this painting. Coming from Arizona, those skies can mean lots of trouble, or they can dissipate as fast as they form. I personally love them, they’re my favorite part of an Arizona sky. Beautifully done!!
