Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

Hi, this is my first post on WetCanvas and this carving axe is the first thing I've drawn in years. I'm very much a beginner and I'm interested in lifelike drawing.

Thanks,
Matt

Welcome to the classroom, Ali .
Very nice drawing .
Two observations:
-- I'm only the guide in this classroom, the classes were created many years ago by JayD (who commented in your thread lonely old) and collaborators.

-- take care to point your camera square to the picture.

Correct shapes are important in the starting classes, and camera distortion would make it impossible to judge.

Please move on to class 1 .

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

Welkom in onze tekenlessen, Mike .
Thank you for posting your preclass drawing.
There are several classes on landscape in this classroom.

I saw you're wary about perspective... don't, the basics that are taught here are simple (to understand -- difficult to apply )
Please move on to class 1, getting acquainted with the different handling methods for pencils .

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

Hi,

I've been trying to learn to draw for over a year now, but I feel like I'm floundering and would like to follow this course to bring a bit of structure to the whole process. Ultimately, I think I would like to work with pen and ink and watercolour, probably in a more sketchy rather than a photorealistic way (as well as get involved in the Southampton Urban Sketchers Group), but I think pencil is probably the place to begin and that this course would fit in quite well with that.

I did this pencil drawing a little while ago for an online class, and I think it is fairly representative of my current level.

Many thanks,

Carole

PS: As you can see, I uploaded my drawing as an attachment because I couldn't get the Insert Image option to work. I believe I met all the requirements for this (less than 800 x 800 pixels, under 100 KB, and 72 dpi), but when I click on "Insert Image" it asks me "Choose File", but then when I try to, all my files including the one I want to select are greyed out and unable to be selected. Are you able to shed any light on this? Many thanks.

Carole - Welcome to the classroom
Thank you for showing your pre-class drawing.

Re uploading: in some OS/Browser combinations the file type in the Browse dialog is ".GIF" by default. Change it to "All Files".

Keep up the good work .
