Whatever method you used, the end result deserves applause. You got a remarkable amount of detail into a small space.
Did you work from a grisaille, or did you simply go straight into color?
I actually did find the photo online. But I spent two straight days looking through hundreds of pictures of wolves so I guess I dug pretty deep. 😀
I do try to use "non copy written" photos when I can though.
And I just started with a quick block in undercoat where I applied middle tone colors. I let it dry then came back with darks, and then lighter tones and finally bright highlights.
The background I purposefully blurred, and separated the sky and mountains with bands of color to simulate the bokeh effect of a short focal range photograph.
Ellis, you can pet her if you are brave enough! 😀 And I DID paint fleas!! But they crawled down deeper into that thick fur before the paint dried.
