Meretricious Fruit

This was originally a response to a recent All Media forum weekly challenge.

If you haven't tried the challenge you should. Choose a reference from a selection and spend two hours on it then post the result. Good discipline which gets you moving and stops you messing around.

This would not normally be a subject I'd approach (another good thing about the challenge) I tend to think images like this are a bit too glossy and reliant on the sparkle factor, hence the title. But of course once you start you get involved and I enjoyed doing it. I went well past the two hour mark and ended top doing four. I returned to tidy things up and spent another two hours on it.

Oil on canvas board 10 x 14 inches.

Great job with this Harry! Beautiful rendering of light hitting all of the objects and love the way you made it subtle.

Great painting Harry, looks good enough to eat! I especially love the shine on the grapes, they look so realistic.

Re: Meretricious Fruit

Lovely brushwork on the platter. The very dark to very light with no midtones makes for a lively painting.
