Teton Lake- Oil- Final (xpost Lands)

I've painted this scene before, but tackled much more complexity here- (yes, it is busy) and why not? I'm still exploring technique- brushes, application, color, and enjoyed the experience. 9x12 Oil on primed panel

Final image at the end of the thread-

I like the way that form is modeled in the mid-distance evergreens at left. Colors are low-chroma, and the sense of light is conveyed by modulation of hue. New painters should take note: The greens are not made using tube green mixed with white or black. Well, maybe some black in the shadows there.

Nice foreground- middle ground - far distance. It portrays the scene nicely !

Thanks Pinguino- I appreciate your great comment! I love mountain scenes, and never tire of painting them. In the mid-distance evergreens, there is no black at all. The darker values in those tree come only from ultramarine blue-

Thank you Carol! Scenes like this have become more enjoyable of me, mainly because there has been lots of practice this Spring. The foreground went well and I think it's one of the most convincing rocks/water areas to date. (a new addition to the effects is the ripply 'surface' and a bit of shimmer).

Small refinements for the Final: details in fore/mid ground textures and edges, some subtle shifts in distant grassy area color/value, etc.-

The whole thing is gorgeous but what makes this painting REALLY stand out for me is that incredible foreground.

Thank you Stapeliad! I really appreciate your great comment- the foreground was the last in, and went relatively relaxed. I can only believe that is because I've been painting a lot of water this Winter.

I love how you've captured the logs and rocks under the water. It almost makes the mountains in the background disappear, but then I look up and see these amazing mountain tops. This is exactly how I remember my experience in Glacier National Park. Well done!
