Halloween is my favorite time of the year...maybe it's because it's the gateway that leads to Thanksgiving and then to Christmas....

Halloween and Christmas have always been my favourite holidays. So opposite but both are a lot of fun. Our so-called spare bedroom is full of containers of decorations for both holidays. I don't decorate as much for Halloween as I used because I didn't want to scare my son. But one year I bought a lot of white fabric which I "dirtied" with some red and rust coloured spray paint. I hung them around the entrance and made a Silent Hill hospital room, complete with sheet covered body hanging in a corner.

Never saw 'Silent Hill,' but Suze is a big Hallowe'en decorator. She plans her costume months in advance. Never anything scary. She was a cheerleader last year. Her birthday party is, of course, Hallowe'en night, and an hour before it starts, she puts on her costume and visits all the neighbors and gives *them* treats. Like they need more chocolate that night. But hers are Belgian chocolates. Me, I usually just put on my old wizard robe.

I'm such a big chicken... I never watch scary movies, so I'm lost on the whole Silent Hill thing, I'll look at whatever scary art you put up, but, nope not watching the movie!

Those nurses creep me out!

On Hallowe'en we sit out with a portable firepit and hand out candy to the kids. We live out in the county, we don't live in a town or village even though we use the nearest town's name for the post office. So we don't get many kids but the ones we do get, get a lot of candy and the people across the street put on a big show and costumes usually.

I still chuckle to myself about one time when my boys were still living at home. Carson (the oldest) bought a costume that had some recondite name but looked to me like a big Jawa. The point is that it had a mesh that concealed his face. He posed at the front door, holding a fake sickle. One group of young girls came by and just as they were about to leave, he suddenly bent and rotated towards them. They all shrieked and one of them dropped her candy and took off running. He still looks on that as one of his fondest memories.

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! October 2017

I always build my own costumes and construct my own special effects make up for my Halloween jaunts. Back in 2010 I attended a masquerade/costume contest in West Hollywood which was a charity event for the FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS FOUNDATION, a dog rescue organization. The gag was, you had to bring your dog and, if possible, put it in costume too. So I "borrowed" my girlfriend's pooch and we went as PUPPY JEKYLL & TUBBY HYDE. I sculpted the head out of clay, made plaster molds and did a latex positive which I added fur and paint to, making a finished image. Well, that and a little Lou Costello hat.

Wow! That's a good dog too, mine would so eat you if you tried to put a hat on him. He doesn't mind painting himself different colors (see my avatar) but he prefers to choose the time and place himself.

Dianne, I forgot to say, congrats on the bridge! We have one out right now but it's an easy detour. What a relief though to be able to save that much time.
