Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! September 2017

You know what's funny. I was scrolling through the index and I saw a thread titled "Blue Fronted Amazons" and I clicked on it thinking it was a SciFi/Fantasy one in the wrong place and that Amazons referred to the female warriors of course. They were some very lovely birds though. Didn't even occur to me that they would be.

Virginia your photo is very cute and so much fun.
Seven years old, enjoy every day they grow up so fast!
My son was a bit different from most kids, I had a little old man in a kid suit.
It worked for me, he's still more of a grown-up than I am, I never felt like an adult, just faking it for my whole life.
Anyway get some rest ... you must need it, and your body wants you to rest.

Okay, then , just for you, my other Whelan hanging in my living room, my very favorite. It is called "Night's Sorceries," but I don't like that title (it was the cover of a a Tanith Lee collection by that name that I don't like) so I just call it "In Memoriam."

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! September 2017

I have up a few signed Whelan's but I would love some of the others I don't have, I do love the books "The Snow Queen" and "The Summer Queen" by Joan D. Vinge and I think his take for the covers of those books are amazing and so true to the books, someday I'll get those also.
The one you show is so great, the stone work is outstanding and the girl, well she is beguiling and a bit spooky. Love all the blues and purples too!

lol Dianna. That's me too. I was 37 when I had my son, I didn't want to have to share my toys. He's a pretty good kid, wasn't the type to get into everything and since he got into gaming he doesn't really make a mess either. See, video games aren't all bad.

Bill, now I see where you get the idea of lining up the moon with character's heads. lol

Yes. And the featureless purple mountains in the distance. I see those every day

That's what I like about Whelan, he can combine the graphic with realism and it all comes out well.

Michelle, you're lucky! Mine was into Lego and let me tell, you nothing hurts more than stepping on a piece of Lego. He still has all that Lego, bins and bins of it. He's an engineer now thanks to the Lego, I think. I like that age, seven year olds are so much fun. There's one down the street that gives my big dog a hug everyday. Such a cutie.

Michelle, Virginia, Bill, Woody and anyone else playing this month, who's finished and who's still working on theirs.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Being a Stephen King fan, I've always loved Whelan's work for King's Dark Tower series. But hands-down, my favorite has to be Whelan's take on Firestarter. What a powerful image.

You mean this one? Funny, it never did it for me, but I never have liked anything by Stephen King. You know what they say, "De gustibus non disputandum est."

Now THAT is the type of thinking that kept me out of the best art schools.

Don't tell anybody but when I saw that title I thought of the same thing......SHHHHH

Been finished for a few days....

I have done another challenge for the animal subforum and posted it today (the 20th) It's nice and sweet.

There is nothing nice or sweet about what I will be posting here on the twenty fourth....I think it will be....memorable.
