Not really, but I saw a pic on the Net that was so charming I had to take a crack at it, and when I was working on it, I thought, "Maybe this will 'fit into' this month's challenge."

Great images everyone.

This is a really rough sketch but I wanted to get the idea on paper before the month was out. It might end up as a watercolor painting.

C&C welcome.

Pencil on layout paper with Photoshop coloring. about 6"x9"

@cyclopesAndTentacles That's a pretty good drawing if you as me alhough I think it would be a good idea to alter the coloring slightly so each object stands out more. The drawing itself is very dynamic and creative imo.

Great username, btw

@cyclopesAndTentacles: Nice. Looks like a Balrog to me. Make those bugs dwarves and Hobbits and it would really be.

Cool creatures both sides of the battle.
Are the green objects eggs or embryos of young?
The one bug looks like it is dragging one to safety and the others look like they are defending them, fiercely.
Lots of action, I'm glad you joined in!

Digital drawing.

I don't know how I missed this! What a great sketch, I can see a whole storyline here.

@talisman - Your flying frogs are cool, it's like I'm watching one of those nature documentaries.
@vanity - Very cool expedition, the color choices are really good, like a paua shell.
@Attalus - I like it, a dragon is telling the others that they are also dragons.
@Moonshadowe - Cool drider, the person in the web is having a really bad day.
@vmrs - Super cool, a fully realized world concept
@WoodyWelch - Wicked sphynx, and I dig the Harryhousen approach
@LavenderFrost - Nice sketch with good depth, you should take it farther.

And thanks for the nice comments on mine. I didn't intend the balrog connection(it was supposed to be more like a Skeksis) but now it's all I see. The green objects are the cocoons of the moth people. They start out as the larvae/caterpillar creatures, then enter their cocoons to mature. They need protection during this phase because the bird people find them especially tasty.

Your story line fits your visuals and that is great, so often what we are trying to illustrate does not come out clearly, yours did. I was sure those green things were eggs or embryos.
Thanks for the nice comment on mine also.
We are all glad to have a new person in our little corner of Wet Canvas!

cyclopesAndTentacles, very good drawing. I actually sympathize with the insects.

Thanks for the comments on mine. I wonder when I will finish it lol.

Thanks for the view and the plaudit. Actually, the other two had an argument about which was the REAL sea dragon, and took the argument to Boody, who is unable to settle it. I realize that is a little too much information, but just sayin' LOL
