Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat!

September 2017

GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a subject, concept or idea will be posted in a thread entitled Fantasy Science Fiction Monthly Challenge and Chat.

All entries must be new original artworks for this challenge in any style or genre of Fantasy or Science Fiction done in any medium, 2D or 3D.
Join in the discussion about the project - it's friendly and fun to learn how others are coping/struggling/thriving!!! But no visual images! Help can be gained from asking but also from looking for resource materials elsewhere such as the Reference Image Library or best of all your own wonderful imagination!
A 'reveal' date for all is 24th of the month - that gives us a little over 3 weeks to make the work, plus few extra days for latecomers.

Please post the finished artwork on this thread at that time.

The September Challenge is....... Mix Up/Mash Up

That sounds interesting...what is it?

You will take two or more lifeforms from Section A and put them in an environment from Section B and you could add item(s) from the optional Section C.

Simple examples:
Mix up: Humanoid(s) interacting in some fashion with Reptilian(s).
Mash up: Humanoid(s) blended with Reptilian(s), Lizard-man or Lizard-woman, or several of them.
Mix up/Mash up: Humanoid(s) interacting with Lizard-folk

Make up your own fascinating and amazing world and the creatures and lifeforms in it.

For environment you could make up a comfortable area for the life forms or one that is not. The Lizard folk would be able to survive in all areas except the highest mountains and the Arctic, too cold for cold blooded creatures, if you wanted them in that environment you would have to give them some technology. In the sea they would be OK, like the Iguanas on the Galapagos Islands they just need a place to get out of the water and rest.

Section A Lifeforms: Must use 2 or more
Humanoid
Reptilian
Amphibian
Avian
Mammalian
Insects
Arachnids
Aquatic (this includes both fish, and aquatic mammals such as Whales and Dolphins also Seals and Walrus, etc.).

Section B Environments: Must use 1
Jungle/Rain Forest
Desert
Forest, Deciduous
Forest Coniferous
Plains
Mountains
Aquatic, ocean, sea, pond and rivers
Arctic
City (make it as Alien as you want)

Section C Objects: (optional)
Sword
Axe
Pike
Halberd
Spear
Bow and Arrows
Sling, boomerang
Whip
Wand
Hourglass
Sextant
Scroll
Gun
Rifle
Plasma weapon
Other: OK, this covers anything you think I should have included!

Ready...... Set...... Go!

Sounds like a fun challenge, Dianna. I have Stickied this thread and will unstick the August Challenge.

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! September 2017

Back from a 3 day trip to Winnipeg. We went to Tinker Town, the Manitoba Museum (which included a planetarium show, the interactive science gallery, a special dinosaur exhibit which was small but had a couple of really huge dinos in it, and of course the museum itself which is quite long... I love that place!), and the Children's Museum. And of course went shopping and ate lots. We also went to Build a Bear where my son got a dog and I got really cute Darth Vader. I was disappointed there was no R2 though.

Right now this sounds like a real challenging challenge lol. But there's lots of time to think about it.

Hey Colin, you going to be hanging out with us here now?

I hope it will be an interesting and fun Challenge.
I have an idea what I would like to do for my artwork. I will not have any humanoids or artifacts, more of an intimate, Audubon style scene of the mash-up creatures in their natural habit.
Or at least that's my plan, we'll see how it goes.

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice - Rush

I hope you do find some that appeal to you, if this goes over well I'll keep it as a fallback challenge in case I can't think of something new, I think this one could be good for a second go round.

If someone really wants a challenge they could put the choices on paper and draw them randomly.

Or you could did out the old D&D dice assign some numbers to the choices and roll the dice!

One of these days I'm going to do that for fun and to see what weird combos it would make.

Or, as my dad would have said, the Chinese restaurant method: one from Column A and two from Column B. Though I have never personally seen a menu like it, but he loved to say that.

Actually that was part of my inspiration for this challenge, only I couldn't make columns so I called them sections.
Yes, I did see menus like that.

Cool, I'm glad you're joining in on the fun. The more the merrier...or wilder...or weirder, it's all great!

Okay, got my preliminary sketches done. Did them off the internet, weird when you are used to live models, but whatever works, right?
