Re: Tres Piggys

they look so sweet and innocent! Beautifully rendered. I sure don't get these results with cps.
If you want to get fancy they're collared peccaries

Re: Tres Piggys

Very well done!!! Especially given the palette is really limited to a few colors. Those dark shadows are really very effective... I'm especially drawn by the long horizontal look of the piece... A beauty of some not too beautiful subjects!

Wow, great job Dave! Beautiful painting. My CP's sure don't look like that either.

Re: Tres Piggys

I have not heard of Javelinas or collared peccaries. I got excited when I saw piggies in the thread title because I have been looking for piggy peices. This is adorable though, and you did a wonderful job with the cp. I work in cp also so I know how much time you spent on this.

Re: Tres Piggys

Thanks Guys!

Trilby- Jurys still out on that, This was done for the "Zoo Paint" event at the Phoenix Zoo. The Zoo seems to think there is a difference between collared peccaries and javelinas? I'm still trying to figure that one out

sassybird- I wish I could tell you how long it took, I always work on about 3 Pieces at a time and jump around between them, so its hard to tell how long I spent on any one drawing. This one is smallish so I would estimate around 8 hours.

Re: Tres Piggys

dave that's interesting! I've always known them as collared peccaries, related to a large South American rodent whose name I can't now recall, without a bit of relationship to the porcine family. I had learned that Javelina was a Mexican name for these peccaries and were one and the same. However, those who put on the labels sometimes change them as we witness in the bird world.
pig, javelina, or peccary this is one very nice rendering with such excellent dimenionality and depth.

I see these javalinas in my yard all the time and that is exactly how they sleep. Head to foot, excellent rendering......Lenore

Re: Tres Piggys

Javelina and collared peccaries are indeed the same. Here's a link to a brief description of them from the Living Desert Preserve in Palm Desert, CA:

http://www.livingdesert.org/animals/...ed_peccary.asp

The link doesn't mention it, but as I remember, the sign in front of the javelina's enclosure at the LDP says they're not that closely related to pigs, but they do look and act like pigs. Apparently they're different enough for them to be classified separately.

Dave--VERY nice piece!
