My sister bought a painting while visiting me in China. She gave it to her son, and asked me to paint a replacement copy for her. It was fun. On rice paper.

August 2, 2018 at 2:57 pm #655911ooooo…. I like this a LOT! very soft and delicate
August 2, 2018 at 3:16 pm #655906Nice! Good job with the ink shadings; I’m guessing that’s not easy to control on absorbent rice paper. Good job on the understated pink of the cherry blossoms, too, which fit so well with mood of the painting. And you even copied the calligraphy! Very nice.

August 3, 2018 at 4:28 am #655912OOO…I love this.
May I inquire about two things:
The seal: is it your own seal?
What does the calligraphy say?
As long as there is light, I will paint it.
August 3, 2018 at 6:21 am #655909Thanks! The seal was made for me years ago, and the last character is the Chinese surname friends gave me. I can’t read all of the calligraphy, but one of the characters looks like wisdom. I copied the characters from the original.

August 6, 2018 at 7:20 pm #655914I like this painting. It’s interesting that you have a seal.. how do you like the rice paper? Any tips on using it? I have a whole roll of it.
August 6, 2018 at 7:29 pm #655910Thanks!
When I paint on rice paper (which is seldom) , I put several newspapers underneath it to absorb the extra (or a felt pad made for that purpose) . I also try out strokes/amount of water on a scrap piece of rice paper.
