Re: Who we are
Hello everyone,
Thought it was time I introduced myself here at WC.
I first came to WC in 2007, but due to health reasons I never did anything here. I rejoined in 2012 and spent the first few months in the drawing classes, which I must go back & continue, as I feel they are quite valuable to my art. I have always loved drawing since a small child & for the first time in my life have the time to devote on learning as much as I can. Thanks to WC, and all of the great folks here I can learn heaps. I will be soon taking Pastel classes from Leigh Rust, starting in Febuary, yah! Looking forward to that.
Living in the hills of the Mount Dandenong Ranges of Victoria Australia, I have the privilege of watching our furry, & feathered friends constantly & never tire of their antics & actions.
This is a photo of me, Zen (the Eccie) I feel she is telling me how she wants the rainbow loorikeet to be.
Thanks again WC for an amazing & helpful site.

Re: Who we are
Hello, what a great idea for everyone to introduce themselves. My name is Heather and I live in Michigan with my husband and two Miniature Schnauzers. My older Mini died in November and we recently got a new puppy--a lot of work! I am nearly 40 (2 months away from my b-day) and I work part-time for a non-profit organization in Detroit, in addition to caring for my 93 year-old grandmother. My job is fantastic. I go into Detroit Public Schools (I'm generally assigned an elementary school) and I teach poetry to the kids and publish a literary magazine of their work. Since the school I am assigned doesn't have an art teacher, I usually teach a few art lessons in order to provide art for our book.
I am new to art and pastels and new(er) to WetCanvas. I started taking art lessons with a private teacher last June. I've always been attracted to the visual arts, but had never been very successful at intro art classes in high school or college. My teacher is fantastic and I'm lucky to learn from her. She teaches in a variety of media, but recommends pastels (after charcoal) for beginners, as it is very forgiving. I love pastels.
Last summer, I had a series of 50s style pin-up photos taken by a local photographer as a sort-of belated birthday present to myself. I definitely don't usually look like this! Below is a pic of me with my grandfather's tackle box and fishing rod.

Re: Who we are
Hi to Ellie, Matt, Heather and Jeimin....nice to meet you all! Glad to see we have some more pastel addicts amongst us....doomed forever.... Never mind, if you are going to be addicted to a medium, it's the best one to be addicted to....almost instant gratification when you put pastel to board....

Re: Who we are
Hello all. This is my first time posting. I'm new to pastels and pretty new to art although I've loved it for decades. At 46 I've finally decided to devote myself to learning what I've only dreamed of. I'm happily married for 23 years. Lots of furred, feathered, and finned children. We just moved back to Florida after a few years in Missouri.
After fiddling around with acrylics and watercolors I've settled on pastels and just today received my box of 80 half-stick Senneliers, which I'm terribly excited about. I'm going through Jackie Simmonds' pastel workbook, lesson by lesson, somewhat patiently. I also plan on taking advantage of all the learning opportunities here.

Re: Who we are
Hi nice to meet everyone, I am in the UK, in Leicestershire.
I'm Lucy, 24, and work as a full time junior graphic designer which I've been doing for 2 years since graduating in BA Graphic Design. I live with my partner Liam, who is a creative writer in his spare time and has to put up with me announcing 'I've got an idea...!' at any given time and frantically scribbling in a book for 10 minutes. I never stop creating!
Although I enjoy my job I have to do my own personal creative work to stay fulfilled and feel like I'm going forward.
I did do an art foundation at college and some drawing modules on my degree and after graduating did some life drawing evening classes at the local museum but feel I am just starting out learning the medium of pastels properly. I have chosen to focus on pastels because they are immediate and vibrant and romantic! I am an enthusiastic pastel hobbyist but quite serious about developing my skills and becoming a commercial artist. Until then, it is fun and relaxing.
I have yet to get married and have children but then I have it to look forward to! Still busy learning and getting going first!

Re: Who we are
Hi!
I am a Canadian expat, mid-40's, female, relocated to Germany for awhile, looking for activities to fill my day with. I am new to art and new to pastels.....but after taking a 4-day local open format pastel class before Easter I got hooked (and met some very nice people which was actually why I went...little did I know I would develop a pastel addiction)! Looks like I found something to do!
I am very excited to be going to Dianna Ponting's workshop next weekend in Holland because although I don't know a thing about art I stumbled across her pictures while doing some research to prepare for the pastel class, and fell in love with her style of painting and her awesome pictures. I have already learned so much reading posts in this forum, what a great source of information, especially for a beginner like me. Btw today I learned what "value" means...yeay!
Cheers
