Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! November 2017

Michelle, last year my husband stuck all the Christmas decorations in the middle of the lawn. It was a nice try but I made him fix it. Silly man.

We needed a freezer so our son says come get mine, I never use it. I didn't even know he had a freezer, so we go get it and this is what is now in my garage...

And the moral of that story, is don't borrow things from twenty somethings..

I do kind of love it though, those graphics!

Ok, so no one has seen Lego Batman or the Snake Clown thing would have been funnier!
Cool ...Cooler it looks frosty just on the outside.
I actually think spiders are scarier than snakes, tricksy little things that bite without you even knowing it, yuk!
The IRS is even scarier yet!

Well Virginia, if you didn't like it you could paint over it. lol

Yes, I hate spiders more than snakes, but we mainly just have garter snakes here. They're my friends.

I played Lego Batman, but I haven't seen it. I'm guessing this movie is different from the games. I know you can find movie versions of the games on YouTube. They are pretty funny sometimes.

Batman: Bats and rats aren't so different.
Robin: You know you're not really a bat.

Ok, going to see what the December challenge is about.

Neither spiders nor snakes bother me. I find most of them pretty interesting to look at. We have those jumping spiders here with the sparkly fangs, I always thought they were cute. There's a wolf spider in my utility room, I like her there because spiders are possessive so if a recluse spider or black widow tries to come in, it's her territory and she'll kill it.

I have a little colony of spiders that live under my television cabinet. They keep the lamp bugs down. Dunno about BWs or brown recluses, though. They must be doing a good job, since I have not seen either since I retired, and they are endemic in East Texas.

I will never visit either of you! lol

I don't know what's worse... spiders living in the basement or the fact that they can live in the basement.

We used to get a lot of those strawberry bugs in the house. I called them crunchies. They were cute and I could tolerate them. When we used to live in the creaky one and half story house, my ceiling was slanted on the sides and horizontal in the middle. One morning that horizontal section was almost black with strawberry bugs. It was weird. Anther weird thing is I haven't seen any of those bugs in a very long time.

We get those giant yellow and black garden spiders, they are "nice" and big enough to almost be pets...outside of course.
Here's an artwork I did of one a few years ago, we used to capture grasshoppers and throw them to it and watch it quickly wrap it up and stash them.
I hate to walk into one of their webs...very thick and so sticky!

Beautiful rendition of that Garden Spider, Dianna!!! When I was spending a summer down in the south at my grandparents, there was one of these very beautiful little ladies which was about the size of my eight-year-old hand. She had made her web between two rose bushes in the garden at the front of the house. I would feed it moths and caterpillars which were everywhere in the garden and the back yard.

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! November 2017

The only monster that scared me when I was a teen ager....THE WHEEL BUG!!!

My parents would park their cars out on the driveway...giving me the garage as my workshop. But occasionally, these damned things....OVER AND INCH LONG!!!...would turn up. They looked like a tank if that tank had been designed buy H P Lovecraft...they moved slowly and steadily....and the armored "wheel" on their backs could rise up a bit and give off a horrible odor...sort of like a wet fart combined with cooked cabbage. UGH!!!

I was MOST terrified by their long proboscis....which I imagined could pierce the skin.

And if all that wasn't enough...the little sons of britches could FLY!!!! The only thing that could kill them was RAID WASP SPRAY....regular RAID was no good.

A science fiction horror story come to life.

Uploading that picture of the wheel bug made me think that in the near future, we ought to have a challenge to paint or draw or sculpt (whatever your choice of art)....

YOUR BIGGEST FEAR!!!!

Since this is science fiction and fantasy (and horror which some people call "dark fantasy" )

And believe you me...I have had some fears far greater than a little ugly bug!!!

Just a thought.

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! November 2017

Yeesh that's a mean looking bug.

Oh yeah, I also hate those spruce bugs. I have never been "bitten" yet but, think about it, they can saw into wood.

I was just reminded of something weird that happened when I was kid. My mom was visiting a friend and I think it was fall because it was dark kind of early. I started walking there and I noticed something moving on the road, thought it was just leaves. But when I got close to a street light I realized they were big beetles. They were everywhere! About half way there I stopped at my grandparent's house and called my mom. She and her friend came to walk with me the rest of the way. They were trying to tell it me it's ok but then one flew at her friend and she screamed lol. I think the next day they were all gone.

I don't know if I could handle seeing your biggest fear Woody, unless it happens to be bunnies.

Bunnies have a nasty bite.

I always thought the assasin bugs, wheel bugs and such were neat looking but a bit funny because they such big eyes. They're kind of cute.
