Re: What did you do today artwise 2012

We've been busting our butts trying to promote our website and the e-zine we just put out. I am so bad at self-promotion and my husband (lay-out artist) is no better. We're trying to dig in our heels and just keep going, but I'm reeling at pouring all of my creative energy into something that doesn't seem to be going right now.

I have been inspired by a book on bats that my son is reading. I think I'll be doing several pieces featuring them and making a few stencils for night-time stints into the questionably legal.

Re: What did you do today artwise 2012

I have been working on a small series of oil paintings on clay boards that I am pretty excited about. I am doing six. The first is finished and the rest have the compositions on them with a bit of paint on all of them. I hope to work on one or two today when I get hope from the doctor's if it's not too late. They are all a tad different for me palette-wise.

I went out and painted a badly done plein air of our wetlands marsh here in Florida. But it's not a wash out. My previous plein air was horrific so this one is a step up

LOL WebCat! I'm sure it is not as bad as you think it is. We are our own worst critics.

I've been working on a small painting today, after two weeks of finishing up half of the 18 watercolors I am doing for a new book. The painting I'm working on is oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches, and there is a fair amount of blending I have to do today. Feeling slightly lazy today though. I probably am just having a hard time kick starting the week after a relaxing weekend.

Re: What did you do today artwise 2012

I have a goal of 3 new paintings for a Jan. 15 submissions deadline for a Feb. show. Today I worked on a practice piece to develop better color command. Had numerous interuptions which was frustrating. Finally made some progress this evening but didn't get finished. Hopefully, tomorrow will be more productive.

Re: What did you do today artwise 2012

That sounds like a good, realistic goal Rick. I hope you get into the show in February.

I'm still working on those watercolors for the book. Ends up I need to do 18 pages instead of 16, plus a collaboration with another artist that I start and send off to him to finish, which I started today. I've done 12 other pages so far.

I have 3 paintings on the easels, but I don't know when I will get to them. At least they have the underpainting done.

artyczar, that book sounds like an ambitious project. Will we get to see any of it?

I'm in slight PANIC mode! Found out that the Feb. 1 show is actually already accepting submissions with a final cutoff date of Jan 15 IF they haven't received enough entries before then. I have one "finished", one "almost finished, sort of", and one in my brain. Can't we put Thanksgiving off for a week or so???

I have started colouring the horse portrait I'm working on, to get back into "the groove" so to speak. Since I can't paint using traditional media, I use a Wacom tablet and Photoshop. I'm a true amateur with no hope of becoming a professional (too slow and unproductive for that ).

Re: What did you do today artwise 2012

I've been busy lately working on set painting for a local amateur theatre troupe I'm part of, and managed to finish things off on Tuesday. We move into the theatre on Sunday, so I've been enjoying the breather.

In the meantime I've been working on a still life/portrait based on a photo of a statue I took at a museum. Making good progress, now I just need to get caught up on my sketches-from-life.

Unfortunately, I have to withhold all the pages until it gets published, so it won't be until after February. Believe me, I want to show them to people because it's been so much work.

I now have 6 more to go, but one is pen and ink only and another is a 5" x 5" so really, I have 4 more of the watercolor pages to do, plus those 2, which will go by faster.

The little paintings are kind of like transition pieces. They are actually informing my new oil paintings.

Re: What did you do today artwise 2012

I worked on a self portrait for class.

It started off promising but it's kinda gotten meh.

I suppose I'll see how it ends up.

I may or may not redo it for myself but on Aquabord.

Jammo.
