If you’ve done at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one, we’d really appreciate it! You can sign up by posting your name and the current hosting list stickie on Artwork from Life forum: https://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show…6#post21360136
Rules for Hunting:
* All items on the list must be sketched from life–not imagination nor photo references
* Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed to by unanimous vote among the participants
* You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count those objects as separate list items, but no single object can count for more than one list item.
* All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you sketch and post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.Do as many or as few items as you like; you don’t have to finish the entire list to participate! You don’t have to comment on every post, but comment, if and when you can.
Scavenger Hunts last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you to do each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are also welcome!

All Media Art Events, Artwork From Life, Art JournalsAugust 29, 2018 at 1:25 pm #683393Thought I would sketch since I’m hosting…. Ha.
In the big book with a Prismacolor 01. Too quickly. I put fish on the list because usually when we have anything to do with fish, beach or shells, I don’t have anything to sketch. I saw these on the wall and had to put fish on the list.
Number 1, fish – wooden fish hanging with string on wall
Number 2, kitchen item – a wrought iron key holder on the kitchen wall
Number 3, jar – a jar of New Mexico green chile, yummmmmMy blog https://jocastilloartblog.blogspot.com/
My website https://jocastilloart.comAugust 29, 2018 at 2:41 pm #683378Jo, I see another plus to going north for the summer …more new things to draw! Nice line work as always. I would pass on the chili. I still have all my tastebuds and would not want burn them out.
Okay..I got a two-fer. My online course requires using sight sizing for a relatively simple item. It happens that I picked a flower so…
1 aromatic – for those who know plants, the reference was a snapdragon.
About 10min using .5 mm Hb mechanical pencil. Image is about 1.5 in wide 3.5 in high in my 9×12 in sketchbook. One of the lesson goals was to draw one for one. Next exercise will be to enlarge.Keep sketching

August 29, 2018 at 4:12 pm #683394Joe, you did a great job on the flower. Sight sizing, is that where you try to get far enough or close enough so what you see fits the paper size? Interesting.
Ive been wearing flannel shirts and sweatshirts most of the summer.

My website https://jocastilloart.comAugust 29, 2018 at 9:20 pm #683413Thanks for the new list, Jo. I like the hanging fish and decorative key holder. Nice jar of green chili. You always have such fun things to sketch when you are traveling.
Joe, nice job on the snapdragon. Good curve to the petals.

1 – opening in the dunes – watercolor
2 – vehicle – watercolor and ink
3 – colorful flowers – watercolor[FONT=Book Antiqua]Joan T
[FONT=Book Antiqua]www.watercolorsbyjoan2.blogspot.comAugust 29, 2018 at 10:59 pm #683380Sight sizing is where you use penciand finger at arm’s lengthl and one eye to measure height, width, key spots. In theory you will draw the size you see.
The next lesson is tricky as you use sightsizing but enlarge. Am thinking easiest is to double size, as you can use sight size but use it twice if that makes sense.Keep sketching
JoeWhoops missed your post Joan. Have missed your watercolors especially the beach scones. Beautiful.

August 30, 2018 at 12:21 am #683395Joan, fun to see your lovely paintings. I smiled at the vehicle, I wasn’t surprised to see a boat. The flowers are in a cool yard, too. Your beach scenes make me want to go there.
Hi, Joe. Thanks, I’m not sure what the technique I was talking about is called. You back up until what you see in front of you fits on the canvas and you just copy it over. Not the same as your sight sizing which I use when I remember in painting.

My website https://jocastilloart.comAugust 30, 2018 at 7:43 am #683411Hi – jo – thanks for hosting and sketching – those are neat fish, non aromatic :>)…….flannel shirts in summer, oh my you have been traveling alot….that sounds like alot of fun..
Joe – nice blossom, I love old timey long stem little flowers like snap dragons, like holly hock and fox glove, mullein, tiger lily…..wow, didn’t realize how many there are . Thanks for the heads up on the hosting thread…..
Joan – lovely watercolors, love the color variation on the board walk.
I hope to get to sketching today…..my “little bird” feels withered around the edges when I don’t sketch or paint something now and then…:grouphug:

#1 Aromatic — a sprig of rosemary (which will now go into tonight’s meal). (The leaves were just lying around on the page.)
August 30, 2018 at 10:23 am #683396Robin, thanks. Non aromatic is good, I think I drew a can of tuna once for fish. One house we rented had a bathroom sink with Mexican tile and it had a fish. Otherwise we never have any. Ha.
I sketched out on the downstairs porch yesterday in a travel Canson mixed media sketchbook, 7 x 10 inches with the Sharpie pen.
Number 4, vehicle – red truck/pickup next door
Number 5, big – the tall pines across the road .. huge compared to the little tree in our yard.Indikon, you posted while I was writing mine. Mmmmm. I can smell the rosemary. The leaves are beautiful. Welcome back!

My website https://jocastilloart.comAugust 30, 2018 at 10:32 am #683381Thanks to all for encouraging comments.
indikon – I can almost smell the rosemary and hear the crinkle of the dry leaves. Nice work.
Jo – the truck with corrections made me laugh. I usually throw those away.
But now the trees.. Great! They are terrific.2 – big. While my reference is not big I am subbing this for big as the task was to draw BIGger the you see it. Used H, HB, 2B and erasers. Image is roughly (very) 4inx4in The actual vase is a miniature and almost 3in tall.
Keep sketching
