Dave Disagrees

Title: Dave Disagrees
Year Created:
Medium: Oil
Surface: Board
Dimension: 16 x 20
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

This is my 3rd painting. I never painted before a month ago. I'm a mechanical draftsman and engineer - retired now. I translated the photo to a canvas panel with drafting methods (I have a "Lucy" projector but it distorts perspective and I can't have that) - using the panel so I could use my drafting instruments and not make holes in it.

Dave is my brother in law. As you can see, he can get animated. He seems to be in disagreement about something but about what, I have no recollection.
Actually he’s probably telling a joke. His wife Diane is off on the side. She says her nose is smaller than that pictured. I don't know about that - my measuring system is VERY precise! I used to design missile launchers before I was a painter!

Appreciate any comments, suggestions, anything. I'm not 100% satisfied, on the other hand, I never knew I had this kind of talent.

Thank you

so? whaddya think?

Re: Dave Disagrees

love your enthusiasm and i'm thrilled you've caught the painting bug

good job, you've captured the scene/pose/expression and fit it all in just like the photo.

gotta say tho, i prefer the second image with the drafting scribbles all over it, the marks add expletives of sorts, a top layer of depth that helps exaggerate his dynamism - a mathematical thought bubble of sorts, it's cool

Re: Dave Disagrees

Yeah I love the drafting pic too. And Dave’s an engineer and would know what all the scribbles mean. I save those pics with those scribbles. Some day they’ll be worth a lot of money (ha - I hope)
