I’m looking to put my work up to sell as prints, but there seem to be numerous choices. Can anyone weigh in from any experience? (Whether you were on the seller or buyer side. Or both!) I’m just wondering which avenue would be worthwhile or fair for the seller while still producing & providing good prints and customer-service for the buyer.
If it matters, my paintings aren’t digital, so I’d need a service that’d accept digital images I’d capture, and take care of actually making the prints themselves.
So yeah, would love to hear other users’ experience and advice regarding which service or outlet to go with. Thanks in advance.
August 20, 2015 at 7:07 pm #1236758I’m on FAA but haven’t managed to get any sales yet. I’ve heard sales come easier on some of the other sites but the profit margin is much lower and I’ve also heard they are harder to use. FAA is very easy to use and you can set your own markups to whatever you want.

Thanks for the heads up. Is it just that FAA has more sellers and artists on it? Or does it some just give you less visibility?
Also, are they focused on actual fine art only? Would any other genre or style be outta place on there?
August 20, 2015 at 9:07 pm #1236759FAA doesn’t judge, the “Fine Art” is just in the name, anything goes as far as art subject matter. They are offering more and more products lately too such as pillows and t-shirts. As for the other question I don’t know except maybe because FAA is more expensive.

August 21, 2015 at 11:41 pm #1236757Greetings!
Here’s an ongoing thread in the ‘Internet Sales Strategies’ forum, comparing several POD sites:

(FAA is not in the title, but is much-discussed)And another:

I’ve been with FineArtAmerica, RedBubble, and Zazzle for more than five years each, and make sales on all. (Though I’m not a ‘top seller’ on any.)
I’ve noticed a definite slowdown on sales at FAA as their community has increased, but still sell enough there to keep me from walking away. I offer only prints and phone cases there — no cards or products.
RedBubble sales tend to come in batches, with lulls in-between, though I’m sure that’s not true for everyone. I’m currently updating my RB site to offer more of the art-themed products they now offer.
Zazzle (which you didn’t mention in your original post) is a bit different, in that I always see a direct correlation there between time actually spent working the site (adding new products, housecleaning my stores) and sales.
Because Zazzle is the most complicated and time-consuming to use, i’m all too likely to shove it lower on my list of priorities. But, when I really focus time there I see results pretty quickly. That might have to do with my having been there forever, so I have links back to Zazzle scattered ‘net-wide.
I’ve just become a member at Society6, and will be uploading a limited range of work for sale. There’s a lot I don’t like about the site (many of the prices are pre-set, and you can’t opt-out of selling prints). But a LOT of my younger demographic seems to buy there, so I need to have a presence there.
I’m sure S6 will be a learning experience.
Best of luck, Platypus!

Website - Information and portfolio.[/URL]August 28, 2015 at 6:03 pm #1236762I’ve bought and sold on redbubble. As a buyer, so far no complaints about product quality or delivery. As a seller there, recent format changes have been a pain, and I removed all purchase options until it’s fixed. For a new RB member with few images to manage, it probably would be far less of a problem. I have not used the other sites you mentioned.
August 28, 2015 at 6:50 pm #1236760I bought a metal print from FAA and was happy with it, except the frame and hanging wire were kind of small and in an awkward position. Didn’t really matter to me though because I intended to put print in a regular open frame.
