Sunshine Celebration, almost!

I submitted this in a Poster contest and got the results, that I didn't win ...so I thought I would share it here so you all could have a go at it too.

There was no pre-drawn sketch on the canvas I just jumped in with an idea but I did make some adjustments after the first layer was laid down. I found out about the contest late so I only had a few days to do it and so I used Liquin to make it touch dry quick.

It is not my usual cup of tea and kind of bubble gummy but then I looked at previous years winners and they were whimsical and more delicate cartoonish rather than anything heavy. The theme was "Summertime in the Northwest" so I wanted to show some dipliction of the sun pouring out sunshine on something celebrate-y and this is what I ended up with calling it "Sunshine Celebration". It is 17"x11" oil on canvas.

Please comment and critique if you like. Thanks.

I like this one a lot, Dave. I couldn't see the whole thing until I scrolled down some, but when I did, I loved what I saw! The bottom half is my favorite section.

This has been up on the Forum for 3 days and I had l lost hope anyone would have anything to say so I was just going to let it slip quietly off the Forum radar and on top of that I just woke up from a particularly disturbing and vivid dream (future painting subject!) so your comment first thing is a very good way to re-start the day. Thank you laf!

I hoped it would convey a lightness and just make you feel better and the bottom is my favorite too.

It is a different process because you have to leave places for others to drop in type and other stuff over the top of the painting. Thanks for taking time to comment Jumper.

This one is just a very uplifting piece, I think! How could you see this one and not feel good? I am very sorry that you didn't win, but it's a winner in my book!

Thanks Katie, I really wanted another session with the face and the rays but I ran out of time and so far have left it as it was but I might go in and polish the chararactor in the Face.

Yes, the emotion of "happy" comes through loud and clear.
