Hi everyone,
I decided to try the challenge, and did Usher Hall. I spent about 30 minutes on it and drew it in pencil first; I can see places where the lines are wrong, but it is what it is.
I really liked the Almond Castle photo, both the light and the colors. I enjoyed the pencil and ink work in the challenge and decided to do the castle the same way, with the rest of the scene in colored pencil. I’m waiting for the new Prismacolor colored pencils I ordered to come in, so I’m posting it as it is now; I’ll post the finished version here when it’s done.
Both are in my 8.5″ x 5″ sketchbook.
C & C welcome

January 9, 2018 at 8:12 pm #542327Both of these are great! Good overall sketch of the castle for five minutes in pen and ink, beautiful Almond Castle in detail in pen. I love how you did the stones and the way the pencil interacts with the pen work on the latter. Looking forward to what you bring in with your Prismacolors!

January 10, 2018 at 3:24 pm #542331I too like the castle the best. I want to see it finished. I never get the hang of pencils. Think that takes more patience than I have. Glad to see others master it though.
Have a good day, Mary
C & C welcome and would be so appreciated.

C&C always welcomeJanuary 10, 2018 at 9:17 pm #542335Well done! Will be interesting to see your castle after you add some color, hope you post it.
January 11, 2018 at 3:29 am #542334These are nice bold statements about the shapes of the buildings. I thought at first that the road in the first was too dark but really it works to set off the slim lines of the building.
C&C always welcome.

I love the start to your castle too, lovely detail in the stonework and the dark windows are very atmospheric!
