I thought I’d share this one so far. I did post some pics in the what are you working on thread. It’s 43x30cm on Stonehenge paper using FC polychromos. So far I’ve been working on it for about 20 hours. Going to attempt the blurred background today using coloured pencil blender powder which I’ve never tried before. Wish me luck! And c&c is always appreciated.

The powder helps blending but reduces the opacity, which means I’ll have to add a lot of layers to get the brightness I want. Suppose we’ll see how it goes. At least it allowed for a lot of coverage in one sitting.

InstagramAugust 30, 2018 at 8:22 pm #684268Great start, Craig! I love Polys, they are so blendable. As a perhaps helpful suggestion for the blurred background instead of powder blender, you can use Zest it or Gamsol to blend and it won’t give you that faded out look. You still may need a few layers, but not quite as many.
Looking forward to seeing more!

August 31, 2018 at 5:22 am #684277Hi guys thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of getting some zest it. How do you suppose it would work over fixed areas as the blending powder i have down now has to be fixed for each layer?

InstagramAugust 31, 2018 at 2:45 pm #684278Here’s today’s update. Feeling a bit better about this now. Probably going to abandon the powder and use spirits instead. After doing a bit of reading I don’t think Stonehenge paper is well suited to it. Let me know what you think.

InstagramSeptember 2, 2018 at 10:15 am #684269Hi Craig! Since I am pretty new to CP myself, and am trying new techniques as well, I keep a test piece of the paper I’m working on and try out what I am looking to achieve on that paper. That way I have no surprises! I am strictly a PastelMat advocate, so I have no experience on Stonehenge paper.
I understand having to work a daytime job and try and be creative in “spare” time. Do we ever have much of that? Even so, I do manage to steal a few hours a week in the evenings. Looking forward to more!
