I'M NOT AS THINK AS YOU DRUNK I AMFebruary 13, 2020 at 9:36 pm #947340Wonderful movement and your signature color harmony Michael.
There are lovely. I like your focus on the middle, leaving out the sky.
A unique view.Derek

The trees and grasses go so well with the waves in the second one. This may be one of my favorites of yours. The composition works so well.

February 13, 2020 at 11:43 pm #947353Hi Michael
I agree with Derek and Wes….the movement you achieved with the knifework is fabulous in both. Your colour gradations are superb as well giving so much added dimension. Great job as always my friend.
(nice strategic opening between the trees and the grasses in the 2nd painting as well drawing us right into the scene…well composed for sure)

February 14, 2020 at 1:15 pm #947339Great paintings Michael, ‘Surfs up’ is my favourite the colours all work so beautifully together. Love those small shrubs by the sand and the colour of the sand is really nice.

Winston Churchill.February 14, 2020 at 5:01 pm #947342It might be spontaneous but your palette knife work seems very accomplished. I really like the sense of action. Gary

How did you photograph them? They seem somewhat dark, unless that was what you going for. I like how in the second one you have that smooth water in the background, and have that nicely detailed grass up front; those elements complement each other very well.

Andre – re How did you photograph them? They seem somewhat dark, unless that was what you going for.
They were photographed with a high quality camera, outside, on an overcast day using a tripod, remote release shutter cable & I used a mid-tone grey backing board to ensure correct exposure. The histogram indicated that the exposure was good.
They may appear dark due to the absence of sky & the associated ‘light value’ that a sky provides for a subject.
Thankyou for your observation – Appreciated !
Michael.

February 17, 2020 at 5:00 am #947351Another couple of beautiful paintings, Michael. I love the wonderful waves – you have very successully depicted the swell of the ocean. They are all the more impressive having been done with a knife – so clever! The fg grasses in the second are really lovely too.
