Re: Sandra's practice sketchbook

I spent July working through part of the Watermedia challenge and trying to get further in the You Can Draw in 30 Days book. day 29 was about drawing the eye. Here are my attempts at it:

Today I finished the first attempt at drawing the human hand. I'll keep at it.

Re: Sandra's practice sketchbook

Thank you Joan. Eyes were definitely one of my favorite things to draw in this book.

Day 30 was all about drawing hands. My first try was so-so, then when I started paying more attention to proportions, my drawings got better.

The bottom drawing on this page was the first part of the bonus challenge, which was to draw my hand in three different positions. Here are the other two drawings of the bonus challenge:

The You Can Draw in 30 Days book by Mark Kistler has definitely been a journey. I started this book in February 2017 and just now finished it. When I look at my earlier drawings, I can see a clear difference. I know with drawings hands there's more to practice, but I think that I'm just about ready to move on. I'll keep on sketching and would like to start my next sketching thread tomorrow.

Re: Sandra's practice sketchbook

Nice work! It's good to see someone else's learning journey shared here.

I've been teaching myself from books and online tutorials for a couple of years and it can sometimes feel a bit lonely! There's so much to learn. I haven't really attempted people yet. Keep up the good work!

Re: Sandra's practice sketchbook

Claudia, thank you. Until I started that book, I had few attempts at drawing people's faces and even those attempts haven't been successful. At the beginning stages of one's journey there's a lot to learn, but I think even our more experienced members will agree that there's always something new to learn or to improve in even with experience.

Yesterday I started a sketchbook that will be part of my next thread and will have at least one page finished today.

Re: Sandra's practice sketchbook

Good for you, Sandra. Some hand positions are so hard to draw because of the forshortening. Glad to see you worked on all kinds of positions.

Re: Sandra's practice sketchbook

Thank you Joan. Working on all kinds of positions was in part because the bonus challenge was to draw hand in three different positions.
