Why is this board so empty?

As the supposed number one art site for artists online, why are there so few announcements for arts opportunities? There are thousands of paying gigs and competitions in the U.S. alone, yet it is difficult to find them on Wetcanvas. It would be really helpful to artists if this were a better resource. I don't even see anything about ArtPrize, the biggest competition in the world, on this board. What gives?

It is up to members to post in the forum, if members don't post about them, they are not here.

Re: Why is this board so empty?

#1 Other sites specialize in it while this one specializes in hosting discussion

#2 The hosts of events don't need to join and post here to get entries and applicants as they have other methods that work better for them (this site may tend to bring in a lot of amateur entries while more professional artists who are members here have access to what they are interested in through other professional contacts and memberships)

#3 Posting for each other seems to offer little reward for the time and effort and critiques and debate activities are way more fun/interesting/creative

Re: Why is this board so empty?

I actually don't think people here know those things.

Here is a good starting list: Look at all these sites.

The National Endowment for the Arts (State and Regional Partners)
www.arts.gov/
Art Deadline (The art world's source for income and exhibition opportunities)
www.artdeadline.com/
Art Job
www.artjob.org
World Wide Art Resources
http://wwar.com
Art Show
www.artshow.com

A complete evaluation of juried shows is published in Sunshine Magazine
www.sunshineartist.com

The Audit Book (expensive-- for professionals) is published in September, and contains information about participants, visitors, and volume for 5,000 shows. www.sunshineartist.com/audit-book.asp

The Harris List is similar (expensive-- for professionals)
www.harrislist.com

Artists magazines

Copied as a sticky, thanks.

This is what I use: http://www.cac.ca.gov/artistcall/

Along with postings in the art organizations and memberships I belong to. They're always posted on websites with those groups.
