I painting this as a Christmas gift for my wife.
11×14 oil on panel titled “Keeping an eye on things”
Represents the pair of Cardinals that hang out in our back yard who we like to feel are the spirits of her Mother and Father paying a visit.

December 29, 2018 at 11:05 pm #750781Wow, gorgeous. I love the close up perspective and the blurry background, as would occur with a camera. Am I correct in assuming they were painted from a photo? Could you describe your technique–i.e. was it direct painting or indirect using a grisaille and stages of paint application and glazes? Also, did you use genuine vermilion or cadmium hues for the red cardinal?
