Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Here she is for what I think is the third time to paint her, 7x9.5 in Ecosystem sketchbook. I began with swirled colored pencils to sketch a crop of her then filled in with watercolor; love the multilead CPs for their variety of line. I titled it "Pippa's Not Asleep".

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Kay - Oh how lovely and looks so like her! Beautiful!
Love your Title too, so apt, and yes, I always think she's asleep and try and creep out of the room without her....then her eyes spring open...boinnggg, and she's there running beside me! She misses nothing! She's always far too alert and clever for a little dog!

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Kay, love your painting of Pippa playing possum.

I'm focusing on the flowers. Hope to get one or two done soon.

Pippa 2nd take. I spent more time on this one & it is larger 29x30cm watercolour.

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

These are both dilute acrylic on Strathmore 140# cold-press paper 6x9 inches. They are both anthraquinone blue and quinacridone gold. The first one also has a bit of quinacridone red. On the first one, I put plastic wrap over the wet background to mottle it.

I've tried the anemones five times. These are the two I like best. They have actually been improving, I think, but not consistently, and it's slow. I don't care for the heavy lines between flowers on one of them. I'm looking forward to learning to stop painting before I start fiddling.

I don't mind the backruns with this style of painting. If Jean Haines is OK with backruns, who am I to quibble?

Viv, thank you very much for hosting. I really like your photos!

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Sandie, I think I like the hi-resolution Pippa a little better, but the first one was certainly nice.

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Sandie - I like the blue background on this painting of Pippa, and the more transparent, clean colors. But I love both of your paintings of her!

Cold Press - Lovely paintings of the Japanese Anemones! It wasn't an easy one to paint with all those pure white flowers, but you've made a great job of both of your paintings!
No-one can tell you when to stop adding paint to a painting....it's something you have to decide for yourself. I don't think I've ever learnt! But when I find myself putting, fiddly bits of paint, on a painting that looks finished - I tell myself "Oh for goodness sake, just leave it alone"! And that works every time!
