Re: Chestnut running

Hi Lisa,

Like the first -- your color is wonderful! Everything is well done! However, LOVE the 2nd one. To me, the horse is spectacular! It suggests detail without it being there. The dynamic edge work says so much, from movement to atmosphere. With all that is implied, yet not rendered, the horse in the second painting is more "real" than in the first. This is what having "lost and found" edges in a painting is all about. There's no way to put into words how good this is!! Way to go!!

Randy

Re: Chestnut running

Two references both by Gary Odell used for these paintings.

Re: Chestnut running

Lovely movement and dynamism. Great sense of the horse turning towards the viewer. Very nice.
Just seen the ref - like what you've done to create a work of art out of it. Well done .

Re: Chestnut running

Such beautiful work on both, Lisa, and thank you for letting us see the references that inspired you. I'm intrigued by the concept of deconstruction. I imagine it's somewhat stressful to break up a perfectly good mass but also freeing to let the process become part of the painting.

Re: Chestnut running

Thanks for showing us the reference photos. As I noted before, the paintings are so much better than reality!

Now I know what that reminds me of: When I was young, I had a poster of a Hoi Lebadang painting. It wasn't this one, but similar genre.
