Small image hydrangea

This little painting is only 5" X 7" on La Carte sanded paper. I used CarbOthello and Bunzeel pastel pencils. The only softies that I used were a few Terry Ludwigs from the Intense Darks II set. The set contains a very dark green and a few deep violets.
There is a small image show at the county Fair tomorrow. I enter every year because it's a time to meet up with artist friends I only get to see once a year. I see an issue with that lower leaf, which I'll have to correct. The ribs in the leaf are a bit too uniform. I still have time to change it, because I haven't framed it yet. The lower part of that leaf will be cropped out by the mat.

Beautiful, and vibrant. Very nice job on this. Love the layered light of your pastel strokes, and those warm colours in the shadows.

What beautiful ideas you have dear Karen, they are like the flowers you paint.

Could you have picked a more difficult flower to paint, Karen? You did such beautiful work on each and every little blossom! The colors are gorgeous and I love how it all pops from the dark background. I don't see an issue with the leaf you mentioned but I know if it bugs you it has to be adjusted!

Beautifully done, I like to see the expressive strokes and lines. Clearly a hydrangea bloom, the globe shape is very convincing by the direction and shapes of the petals.
Have fun at the show.
I add soil acidified to my hydrangea trying to get it bluer. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Re: Small image hydrangea

Thank you all for stopping by to take a look. The small image show at the Fair is such fun. It was held yesterday and I got to reconnect with so many friends. Plus we get a free day at the Fair just for entering. I'm happy to say that in the drawing category my pastel friend won third place, my pen and ink friend won second and my pastel/scratch board friend won an honorable mention for her scratch board. Yes, it's always nice to receive a ribbon yourself, but I happen to find just as much joy in watching my friends win.
