        Hello
I’ve recently started printmaking. (I was very fortunate to have found an etching press that needed a new home).
I have successfully produced work in a workshop and produced good prints from Lino cuts. However, when I try and print using various inked up plates with stencils, the paper either slips or gets stuck on the plate and tears. I also seem to not have a enough ink applied. (Should I be using an ink extender..?)
I use damp paper and Intaglio oil based inks. Does anyone have any ideas why this might happen? Many thanks in advance!

Something isn’t right if your paper is tearing when you lift the print. Are you doing block prints or something else? Some things to try.

[*]Add some modifiers to your ink so it isn’t as sticky.
              [*]Try a different ink.
              [*]Use heavier paper.
[*]Let the paper dry out a bit more before printing.

Less pressure could also work to the tearing paper issue, if the printing is done with a press. If printing is done with baren, then I would use sheet of parchment paper (baking paper) between baren and the paper. It will reduce friction that can damage the damp paper.

Many thanks. I’ll check these points and see what happens!
