I was wondering how long you usually wait for the final coat of acrylic gesso to dry before painting on it with oil paint. Many years ago I only would wait a few hours and then start painting. I never had trouble with the stability of the painting at all. Today, I went to start a painting on a canvas that was professionally prepared for me. I noticed that it seemed unusually rough and I needed to sand it lightly and put a new coat of gesso on it. I happened to look at the label on the gesso and it said to wait 24 hours before painting on it. I was a bit surprised so I decided to come here and find out what most people do.
