prepared panels?

i've only worked on canvas but i'm intrigued with the idea of working on panels because i want a smoother surface. however, i also don't want to spend the time necessary to prepare these. are the panels you sell out of the box ready to go or do they need to be gessoed and sanded etc.? i'm looking for something that has the texture of, say, an egg. not completely smooth, some tooth. what would you recommend?

Re: prepared panels?

Hi Mary.

Thank you for your question. The panels we offer may be primed or unprimed, and we indicate which on the product page on our website. What you're describing sounds most like the Ampersand Gessobord, which is a toothy but not overly textured surface, and ready to paint.

If you type "Gessobord" in the search on our website, you'll be taken to a page which lists all the sizes and prices. If we can be of further assistance, just reply to this post. Or, you can email [email protected] or call 1-800-933-2542 (weekdays 8am - 5:30pm CST), and we'll be happy to assist you further.
