I am really attracted to illustration, particularly golden age styles, fairy tales and children's stories.
Currently, I am trying to find my artistic voice and develop my own style. My problem is that everything I draw turns out looking more cartoonish in quality then a whimsical illustration.
I was wondering if anyone had any pointers...perhaps things to avoid that scream that you are crossing into cartoon territory. Or perhaps any artist that I can be pointed towards to study. I know when I look at something that I've done that it's cartoon quality but I don't know how to prevent it.
Any help would be great.
This is a link to my sketch from today. (sorry still new and trying to figure out the photo uploads and such)
It's what made me realize that I need some help figuring out how to avoid the cartoon tendencies.
