Camp

Hello everyone. This is a painting I recently called finished. I based it off a painting done by Winslow Homer. I've done a couple of night scenes but not a lot so I thought I would give it a try. Back in my earlier years I spent a lot of time in the Adirondacks in up state NY. this reminds me of those years.

Russ, a super atmosphere in this work. Like the light.

Re: Camp

Ah, a campfire in the gloaming. Quite striking. The pool of light around the fire, and the light on the underside of the slanting tree, convinces me completely.

I'm guessing this painting is about 14 X 10 inches? I ask because the size might give some clues about what a normal viewing distance and perception might be.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Re: Camp

Excellent and very effective use of darks versus lights.

Re: Camp

Just enough detail to tell the story. I like it!

Re: Camp

Very nice composition, with that strong diagonal.

Re: Camp

Very nice. Night scenes are fun and a bit of a challenge. This was nicely handled.
