Re: Colored pencil sharpener...need updates!

I sharpened about 150 old and new Prismacolor's and a couple handfuls of old Bruynzeel Design Full color cps and only had problems with 2 pencils. I did run some woodless graphite pencils thru four times. Sharpener worked beautifully. Yep, less than $2 apiece.

I've had the blade for very many years. Packed away in the cellar; found them on the floor!

Re: Colored pencil sharpener...need updates!

After seeing the way my Boston Bulldog chewed up a regular pencil, I am sticking with my old "office products store" electric for initial use and the Prisma dual tip can style for continued use. I am though looking for one to put in my sketch box for traveling. I never thought of the Walmart $1.77 ones. At that price, replacement blades may not be a concern. LOL
Good thread. A great way to keep everyone aware of what is currently out there.

Re: Colored pencil sharpener...need updates!

Just ordered a little "Long Point" manual sharpener from my favorite on line retailing giant to put in my portable kit. We shall see how it works and holds up to some traveling.

Capt - is that the KUM Automatic Long Point sharpener? I use them, they work well on most of what I run through them.

Re: Colored pencil sharpener...need updates!

Yes it is Marksmomagain. Haven't got that one yet but was at the Reno art store earlier today and they had a KUM 4 in 1 for under $5. Works very well and it will handle pencils of different diameters. I have heard some comments about that problem. The 4 in 1 though is much larger than the Auto Long Point so I will have to see which one I like best in my outdoor kit as both will fit. Decisions decisions. LOL

Re: Colored pencil sharpener...need updates!

I have a handful of sharpeners, but my favorites are an M&R (Mobius & Ruppert) brass sharpener and the T'Gaal sharpeners which you can adjust to 5 different angles for the tip. It's very confusing when searching for sharpeners because sometimes tip "length" refers to how sharp of a point you get and sometimes refers to the angle. The M&R brass two hole sharpener has a standard opening and a "fat" opening, which works well for jumbo pencils, but would also work for a wider angle. You can get replacement blades on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sharpener-Repl...dp/B001IVHLDE/. You can't replace the blades on the T'Gaal sharpener. They have blades with two screws, unlike most other sharpener blades, probably because they're made in Japan. And you'd have to break the plastic apart to get at them. You can get a multiple pack on Amazon though, for only $21: https://www.amazon.com/Kutsuwa-Adjus...p/B01FR1ETGM/r
