Re: Whirlwind HAR 10 finished

I think there would be more ships/boats around. The one in the picture looks like it just happens to be passing, maybe a distant low Shakor other chopper.

Re: Whirlwind HAR 10 finished

Thanks Jim Not sure about the air and sea activity at the time . The Baltrover was the vessel that saw the sinking and radioed in . She rescued quite a few survivors . Will do a bit more research.

Re: Whirlwind HAR 10 finished

Final post on this one. I decided to leave the Baltrover where she was having picked up several survivors .. The oil slick rainbow effect appears to work OK. The chopper didn't arrive till an hour or two after the sinking , reports mention survivors being picked up by several vessels but rather than guess what they were I've just gone with what I've got .

I like that and the oil slick certainly mixes the mechanical side with the force of nature.

Re: Whirlwind HAR 10 finished

Thanks Trumper - Still undecided if this is finished . I hear what Jim said about maybe adding ships and /or aircraft to the scene but wary of cluttering it up . I feel that there's a nice triangle effect with the a/c , winchman and ship .
Enlarging the ship is another option . She'd have stood in fairly closely to the wreckage but without risking hitting it I guess . Best have a play around in PS I guess . Still got to align the boom lettering to a more rounded surface appearance as well.

Re: Whirlwind HAR 10 finished

I've had a dabble in PS and to me I like the composition better with the ship brought in closer / larger. Thanks for the notion Jim , I might add a trawler somewhere behind the winchman.

I like this but not too much detail on the ship to take over the Helicopter.

Re: Whirlwind HAR 10 finished

Here's the final version . I brought the Baltrover in much closer and it helped the composition . still tweaks to do but this is it in essence

I think the move makes it much better.

It is worth reviewing the painting in tone before calling it ‘done’ - for a few minor tweaks could have significant impact.

Thanks Karen , something of a relief to hear that the sea looks right . I haven't done many seascapes so it was a challenge .
