I tried posting this the other day in the still life forum but haven't had any response yet so I thought I'd try putting it here too.
I recently restarted painting (and returned to WC) after a gap of far too many years.
I decided that a few still life paintings might be a good way to ease myself back into things, so I grabbed a few objects that were to hand and had a go. The biggest, and probably best, of my attempts so far has been a collection of candles, painted in acrylics on A3 paper (a bit bigger than my usual size, but still feeling slightly cramped). Here it is:
As usual, I was aiming for a fairly impressionistic rendition of the scene rather than a particularly realistic one, but I think I ended up a bit closer than I was expecting. Here, for comparison, is a photo of the actual collection of candles I was painting from:
I'm fairly pleased with the result given that it's more or less my first painting for nearly a decade.
