Rafa's Observational Journal

Hello there !

It been a while since my last post. I am just coming back from a hiatus (further information on my blog). Please, let me share you some sketches I just did on the past days. This thread will be exclusively for one journal where I draw from observation only without photographic reference.

I will be updating this thread periodically.

Regards,

Rafa.

Rafa, these are all great and spontaneous sketches! Are you planning to participate in InkTober on 1 October?

Hello, here some others from that day. I am going soon add others sketches from this week too. Is okay do double post in my own journal thread? I want to update my thread 2-3 times per week – if possible, even 5 lol.

Oh yes, I am going do the 30 days, coupled with the sketch daily prompts from another website.
Thank you. When I draw something from imagination, I get an idea of the shape of the object; then, I let the different kind of strokes to do their own thing. Will you too participate in inktober?

If someone is familiar with American Sign Language and the Deaf culture, you will recognize I sketched my own right hand doing some signs. I know that there are other deaf artists on our artistic community. I just saw some videos by other deaf artists via YouTube. I am hard of hearing, yes, and my fiancée is deaf. I signed "L," "O," "V," and "E." I used the ASL alphabet. The hand sign for I Love You is shown in my sketch too.

And just for fun, I used water colored pencils to paint my right hand, as well a mushroom lamp’s lid.

Posdate: Can I post too my water colored pencils artworks on the Watercolors sub?

Good afternoon, thank you, eyepaint! I just went to see your current WDE Sketches thread. Following.
I want also include some hand studies I did a few days ago of my hand doing American Sign Language. I think it was fun way to do some hand studies because of the variety of hand gestures on different angles.

I wonder how many Wet Canvas’ users know ASL or know someone from the Deaf community .

Re: Rafa's Observational Journal

Yay! ASL! I've recently re-learned to sign/fingerspell with the alphabet and numbers 1-50. It came in handy when we were in a noisy environment and we could share the time with gestures/signs.

Re: Rafa's Observational Journal

I'm sure there will be a thread in Pen & Ink for InkTober as there was last year and someone else opened one in Art Journals. So yes you can post in your own thread and elsewhere on the site, too.

Re: Rafa's Observational Journal

Great first sketch, Rafa. For some reason I am seeing a blank space for the other two sketches you posted. Might be some WetCanvas bug, though, since it took me a few tries to log in.

Thanks for your feedback, blank space? May you show me a screen capture, please.
Just for your information, the one with water colored pencils, there is a tissue under one to avoid the water wet the next page while drying up.

Might have been something on my end. When I was logging in just now, I clicked "Remember Me" in the login box and was able to see them fine. They're beautiful sketches and the watercolor pencil sketches look like actual watercolor.

Right on, I'm also following Andrew Loomis's Drawing the Head and Hands book.

Sorry for the silence here, I'm busy with Inktober, preparing for the 100 Heads Challenge, etc...

But, I'm loving doing art
