Re: Nudes in the Reference Library?

I do agree with Susan about the female depiction by famous male painters which have been in majority in the last century, is something to be concerned about. I have for the last ten years drawing and paintings nude figures being men and woman. I have never felt any desires towards any of the hundreds of models that posed for me. I wonder if it is a man thing to be able to have such feelings while representing the human being in such a vulnerable state. As a woman, I see nudity as beauty but beauty beyond desire. I never do full frontal poses and I am extremely careful of how the model will be represented in my art. I would like to say that woman artist have an advantage at this time in history, first of all I think we should undo what has been done in terms of the past depiction of the nude and start representing the human being in a way that men cannot do. About the bathing suits, please give me a break, the idea sound horrific. Lugir

Re: Nudes in the Reference Library?

As a heterosexual woman who loves to paint & draw female nudes I can clear up a bit of the mystery about why women are such a popular subject: in a word body hair. Grown men are rife with it. Women tend to have less noticeable body hair and thus the play of light and shadow on their flesh holds more appeal. Also, the softness of form is enticing to my paintbrush whereas, most men just aren't as gracefully shaped. When I look at a nude model, I am not looking at a sexual figure, I am looking at nature's beauty. It might sound cliché; however, clichés often begin with oft stated truths. Do I decline painting and drawing the male figure? No. I just find the female figure more beautiful (okay, there are some male bodies that are to die for but....)

Re: Nudes in the Reference Library?

if you want to find nudes look up pictures on the web, allowing nudes to be posted on wet canvas just makes wet canvas a web porn spot for kids to get there kicks off with, looking for nude reference search for simple nude or domai. personally i find that when working with male models I am more upset or irritated than when I am working with female models. I am not overly sexually attracted to my models ever, usually the thought doesn't go past "she's attractive." or "he's handsome." got no time for sexual thoughts when your trying to paint. you know? of course I usually try to do simple studies.
felt like rambling
thanks for my two cents.

It bears repeating - do not use any images you find on the internet for a reference image if you have any intention of displaying and/or selling your work, unless you first get permission from the image's copyright owner.

Re: Nudes in the Reference Library?

Use anything you want of mine to use your Figure work on.

http://www.FigureNUDE.com

There is no need for permission to draw anything based on a photo to avoid copyright issues anyway. There might be a trademark issue, but a drawing of a photo is another uniqu piece of art. A photocopy or a scan aren't.
