Excellent! Thanks for sharing, I really like the backgrounds you have chosen, I really struggle with that in my work!

Oh WOW these are amazing! I love Clint's hat and the texture of his skin looks really good. Real nice detail in Dennis Hopper, the denim jacket is just incredible. Pretty Boy is so cute...I just love that face. Those eyes are full of so much love. You've got some real nice shadows on your random horse. Nice muscle/bone structure on the head.

Excellent work! Looking forward to seeing more.

Re: Some new stuff!

Wow thanks everyone! The backrounds are just light and dark shawdows blended, like clumps of tree leaves blurred in the back round of a photo, 6B pencils and random shapes.
Kenny, I use Canson artist series white paper, 11 x 14, and 14 x 17,90lbs, I use the back of the paper mainly, it's smoother but still has some tooth, I've tried Bristol paper but it is too smooth!! Faber Casteel pencils, mostly HB, 4B, and 6B, I try to do most detail and shading with just the pencils, hatching, I do the skin under layer with a stump though.
For the beard I used the a sharp 6B and a mechanical 5mm and 3mm 2B pencils, I lay down layers of hairs and alternate with an eraser cut on an angle to create highlight and light hairs, then more layers of graphite, I do this untill the beard looks "Full" and 3D.
The jacket on Dennis Hopper took the longest to create, denim is a hard texture to capture.
Thanks again all!

Re: Some new stuff!

Kenny, your work is beautiful! How do you get your digital pieces so realistic?
Rick, I love your graphite work, especially Anthony Hopkins, one of my favorite actors!
Karen, some breathtaking stuff on your site! I love the pastel work your doing, I am trying to learn pastel ATM, I love working with soft pastels.

Thanks. How? Pretty much the same as with graphite, lots of time, attention to detail and lots of practice.

Looking forward to more of your work.

Thank you very much - you're very kind. I'm still learning and haven't used pastels much lately as I've got a bit distracted using graphite .

Ha! Totally off topic, but I just noticed that I did "Abby" the baby portrait in your blog a while back as a digital painting. I don't remember if it was weekly challenge or just a practice, but had fun with it.
