Our illustrator for March is Albert Robida 1848-1926
Albert Robida was a futuristic French illustrator, etcher, lithographer, caricaturist and novelist. He also illustrated many children’s books.
He was editor of La Caricature magazine for 12 years.
Some of the war ships in the animated film “Howl’s Moving Castle” are believed to be inspired by his illustrations. Please enter his fantasy future and copy one of his illustrations…or make up a world of your own. Please post for us to see.

March 2, 2012 at 3:07 pm #1157201Hi, Tyree….I just love “Howl’s Moving Castle” and have seen it many times. I had never heard of Albert Robida, but I understand his illustrated books go for a lot of money in auction. His world is fantastic.
Saw “Hugo” last night, and it was wonderful…so much imagination.

March 5, 2012 at 6:04 pm #1157230These look great, love them. Never heard of “Howls moving castle”, might have to look it up and watch it. These images look like they’ll be fun to play with.
Nice job Sandra, and so quick.
On the topic of fantasty illustrators Ralph McQuarrie the guy who did all the original concept art for Star Wars as well as many other movies died on the weekend. I was admiring his work yesterday.

Star Wars has some of the most incredible alien creatures and space settings!

http://virtualparsnip.blogspot.com/March 10, 2012 at 1:33 am #1157231I just found nearly 400 Robida images, mainly drawings here… http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Albert_Robida
He did so many drawings and caricatures of people. I think I want to go back and practice some of those too.
Tyree glad you like Hugo. That is a movie I am really interested in too.
