I’ve been trying to finish this piece for a while now but I made a mistake; instead of making the background blue-green I ended up with this obnoxious yellow color (I wanted to mix a spring green type of color but failed miserably :( ). I would welcome advice on how to fix this problem. The character is rendered fairly well and I would hate to have to bin the piece :/

If you go over the yellow with some very thin blue? But it should be a blue on the green side.

That is some very nice line work.

        C&C always welcome. Michelle

You know, I think the yellow adds a really interesting contrast to the light blueish lavender directly behind the figure. But I bet if you did a wash of that same light blue over the yellow, it would tone it down nicely… kind of like how it’s already done to the right of her left hand.

Will doing a wash over the black line work smudge it?

Really loving that organic scrollwork

@LavenderFrost @thecakelady, thank you for your comments/suggestions. The linework is done with microns, so it should not smudge. I am considering keeping some of the yellow but most of it needs to go ;)

I think the colors are fine, though I would do a light blue wash if you really hate them. One nit: elderly people have thin lips, almost nonexistent to external view. Unless the Sorceress used a spell for “Make lips full and lush.” Requires two cartons of Maybelline and an aliquot of silicone, I hear.

I like the colors as is but of course you have the real life version of them, yellow being notoriously hard to reproduce in a photo. You could use blue or red or even a bit of sienna or a darker brown to give it an earthier tone. Before you do anything you might want to put a water wash on it and then blot it with a paper towel to absorb as much pigment as you can. I would pretest the colors on scrap paper.

Lovely design, with the ink swirls.

I really love the swirls and line work.
Do whatever you can to save it.
I don’t do watercolors so no advice.
                        Good Luck!

Heh, have you seen the ep of “I Love Lucy” when Lucy and Ethyl get hired by a candy factory?

Robert Heinlein commented once that new employees at candy manufactories are encouraged to eat all they want. They soon stop

I am working on this piece now but I am not sure what the final result will be…

You know, I was thinking she didn’t look very old, now I understand why. Well, I supposed if I was a sorceress I would keep myself looking young too. The colour additions look really good.

Looks great. I like how you can still see pops of that yellow coming through.
