Bald Eagle Sumi-e

Its a work in progress, as well as my first attempt at drawing a bird with Sumi-e technique.

I personally think the beak is too big, the feathers on the head need to be darker, and the body feathers could have more detail.

What do you think?

I appreciate that you want to improve your drawing. The first and most important thing you need to do is to be sure your shape is as close to accurate as possible. Actually, you might want to trace the image and make a comparison. Then study carefully how the feathers are formed. Don't go for too much detail.

Re: Bald Eagle Sumi-e

Thank you. I'll take your advice and try it out when I do a bird again. I happen to be a bird photographer, and I've got some bald eagle photos. I'll figure out which one I can trace and work on for Sumi-e.

A nice photo. We have some bald eagles here but I have not been able to photo one yet. They are a majestic bird.
