Finally got a chance to work on this - I'm still learning how to paint landscapes, and how to manage pastels. This is the view from a lakehouse in Canyon Lake, Texas. Very serene, peaceful. Texas trees are usually just stumpy scrub oak, with a few mesquite and live oak thrown in, so I had to use my imagination to add varying color and shrub shapes. One lesson learned in this challenge was the value of skyholes...I never quite understood why painters didn't paint on the branches and foliage, and "carved" them out via skyholes. After hours of "push and pull" between sky holes and branches, I finally gave up. This painting has a bit more of the skyholes than previous attempts, so I'm getting there! I also still have to work more on a more striking value range. All in all, this was a valuable challenge this month!

thevaliantx, Very nice job on the boat painting!
Artcat369, Very moody and atmospheric! I think your branches look good! Push and pull (positive and negative painting) with branches and sky holes is the usual procedure!

Ruth, Prashanti, and Don, thanks for the kind comments! this has been fun; being a group to encourage each other on, and hold us accountable to fitting in time for artwork. If it wasn't for this, I know I'd be quite lazy, if not inundated with family contstraints. So, I echo Ruthie's sentiments! Bring it on!
