Great Dane ATC
I offered an ATC custom portrait as a prize in a contest- just finished it for the winner. I expected to do a head only, but she wanted the whole dog on the beach- Wasn't sure if I could make it work for this small size. I've called it "done" cause I keep messing around with the eyes and don't want to overwork it. Thought I'd post it here to get some feedback before I mail it. thanks!

Re: Great Dane ATC
In my opinion the tail looks like its attached in the wrong place. Otherwise, Its a really nice painting for being so small and the client should like it.

Re: Great Dane ATC
Thanks Artybo - I agree. I redefined the base & darkened the top highlight- better?

Re: Great Dane ATC
A great deal of skill to paint a miniature Great Dane...My goodness, indeed....and to have it WORK OUT SO GREAT! Good correction on the tail. Possibly lighten the top of the shadow on the front leg...so its an indication of muscle there instead of it being connected so high up on his body. I was captured on how you caught his "dejected" air...like mamma and pappa have just called him back from his wanting to explore the beach! I love it when artists capture personality and attitude in a painting...it shows great skill and is wonderful for the viewer!!!! Very good work!

That's a lovely piece. You captured the whole dog very well. A friend of mine always has had Great Danes and they are characters. I think the owner will be thrilled by this!

Re: Great Dane ATC
Thanks for your comments, ML- I'll check on that shadow. And thanks for your comment, too, Virginia. The only Great Dane I've interacted with was at our old dog park. She & my Siberian girl (who thought she was the Queen of the park) didn't much care for each other - it was like a contest of who got to snub the other one first, lol.
The owner chose this pic cause she loved the look on her dog's face - I sent her a prelim jpeg & she really loves it - and now it'll be even better when she gets the real thing!

Re: Great Dane ATC
Lovely picture. I think that poses of a dog doing something or being somewhere are a lot more interesting visually than the traditional 'dog portrait' shot.
