Hails from Israel
Jerry, Eli and Tommy

I bought some clay to do after school projects with my 7 y.o. twin grand-daughters. I've never tried it before and had so much fun that I decided to start doing my own projects! I made these; Jerry the Giraffe and Tommy the Turtle, from air-dry Creall and Eli the Elephant from real clay. I made a wire armature for the giraffe and the I didn't fire the elephant. I just let it air dry, sanded and painted it. It was a blast! I went back to the craft store yesterday and bought 3 kg of DAS modelling clay and am ready to start on some new ideas. Maybe I'll even take a local class.

One question about paint. I am not really happy with the acrylic painting. Even though I gesso'd the pieces first it took several coats to look even halfway decent. Is acrylic a good choice for clay? Maybe I bought cheapo sub-standard acrylic paints. I have a lot of artist quality oil paints, but am hesitant to use them on large clay projects because of the cost.
