Zooo!!

I know that this is not the photography forum or the animal and widlife forum and I can't upload to the RIL but I wanted to share some of my pictures I took( for the first time at my first visit to Edinburgh zoo) with my fellow scratchboard friends. I know that is really shocking. They were taking with my panasonic lumix.

I got the annual membership so I will be going a whole lot more and taking more pictures hopefully decent ones. The sumatran tiger was the most active big cat the rest were sleeping lol

Oh yes before I forget any photographing tips for getting good references Cathy, Patrick and Allan ( except from getting a DSLR which is too expensive for me )??

Gee Irfan, you seem to be doing just fine! I love the reflected light in the shadows on the flamingo. The biggest trick up my sleeve is patience. Cathy can tell you all the lighting and exposure stuff, but I'm a good waiter

Re: Zooo!!

Man I needed a good Laugh!!!
Someone asking me for photo tips!!!!

I tell ya... Cathy transformed me into a semi-ample half-decent-photographer
It took her a whole day to do it!

The only suggestions I have is patience and a BIG memory card so you can snap a bajillion shots! I took 700 of em at the Denver Zoo and only have about 10 that turned out the way I wanted them. I got a lot of decent pics that I can use for personal references but as for beautiful shots like Cathy's...
not even close!
Patience, practice and persistence.....and a big memory card...
I wish I could add more
I feel honored to be mentioned with Cathy and Patrick and their photo skills!

Re: Zooo!!

I think you did pretty good too- the flamingo is very nice. As far as the big cats I like to be on eye level when possible, not down below or standing above. This isn't always possible, but it is certainly my preference. You (or your camera) did a good job with the exposures. Overall I think you are on the right track, just keep practicing.

Re: Zooo!!

oooh, that flamingo would make a lovely board - all those feathers! I know the POV on the first tiger photo isn't traditional, but I think this could make a interesting scene with him perched above the viewer's head. I know tigers aren't big climbers, like leopards, but adult tigers can climb.

Re: Zooo!!

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice!

I have planned another trip in two weeks time, hopefully I can get some pictures of the elusive black jaguar and the amur leopards.

Love the flamingo. The tiger colors are great. Sounds like you'll have some more nice outings. I plan to go to our zoo also.

Re: Zooo!!

I think your photos are wonderful! There is some nice sharp focus, and softer focus going on there that compliments your subjects quite nicely.

My only advice would be if you plan on reproducing one of the photos of the tiger into your art to just make sure it isn't in a tree because adults are -very- rarely seen in a tree, but it does explain you being below eye level.

Can't wait to see more!
