I am sooo glad you didn't pick Q as well or even X , now that would narrow down the subject choices.

Re: 2010 challenge and exchange

Marcia, firstly unframed. It's everyone's own responsibility to deal with the art they receive any way they want. Framing adds too much to the cost for a goodwill event like this, especially since someone will be lumbered with the cost of post to Australia anyway

What I do is wrap the board up in a clear film (like cooking wrap), cut a sheet of flat coreflute (like corrigated cardboard but made from plastic) the same size as the board, and then tape them together so they are nice and firm, into one of those padded envelopes and off they go. Others may use boxes but I'm not too sure.

Re: 2010 challenge and exchange

Thanks Patrick. I was thinking wrapping in bubble wrap and then sending in a padded envelope. One other question should it be sprayed or not?

Re: 2010 challenge and exchange

I just did one and I also wrapped it in cardboard before I put it in the bag.

Spraying with varnish is the way to go as it protects it. If I received one that wasn't sprayed, I'd spray it anyway as that usually gets rid of fingerprints and other such mess. It makes the board look professional.

Re: 2010 challenge and exchange

I ship mine (5x7's) via USPS in the smallest box the have. I have started using Styrofoam cut to the size of the box with the art in between two layers of it. I place a sheet of cardstock over the piece to keep the artwork protected from being scratched by the Styrofoam.
I've also shipped them in bubble wrap envelopes inside of the USPS box.
I have a tendacy to be a little overly cautious when I wrap em up.

Re: 2010 challenge and exchange

I put mine first in a clear plastic sleeve, then with a piece of cardstock or cardboard on the face to protect from scratches, but cut it a bit bigger then the board...I tape the clear plastic sleeve centered on the cardboard...less likely to have dinged corners that way.(hopefully)

One thing...make sure your piece has dried thoroughly after spraying before wrapping or whatever. When I shipped to Indy last year, one or 2 pieces had the wrap stuck to them...not too badly, thank goodness, but they needed respraying.
