Recognition challenge

I've had an idea. I don't know if it will work or not but let me know what you think.

For those who wish to take part in this challenge, the idea is we all submit a scratchboard to the moderator of this challenge (doesn't have to be me - need a volunteer who won't actually take part in the challenge).

We all have our own particular styles and ways of working. The idea is the moderator posts all the submitted pictures (maybe we take a month to submit them or so) and there are no names attached. Then we each try and recognise each other's work.

I know there are some newer scratchers but this shouldn't stop them. As long as we have a list of scratchers and the same amount of pieces, we all try and guess who did what. Of course, we should all manage to guess our own piece correctly (except Mychael, he'll probably get his wrong )

What do you reckon to the idea?

Re: Recognition challenge

Patrick your probably right, but if I sign mine the odds of me getting mine right skyrockets to an amazing 3%!!

u know I remember one time calling the cops on this freak of a guy that was peaking into my bedroom window. Then my wife came over, hung the phone and politely asked me to quit staring into the mirror . . .

Sounds like a fun challenge Patrick!

Patrick. Great idea! I'm in. Do we try to hide our style?

Mychael. I think your WAY giving yourself too much credit. I crunched the numbers. I came up with 1%. And. I was the indiana state math champion for 8 years running. 1977 to 1979!!!

Re: Recognition challenge

Great idea, Patrick Count me in plus to give it a bit more of a challenge, we should all create something totally different from our comfort zone. Maybe we'll recognize each other strokes. BTW, what size board are we looking at?

Re: Recognition challenge

Ok, we have five (including me) at the moment. I'll keep this open for a while and 'bump' it up occasionally so others see it.

The idea is to not add a load to your existing work so you don't need to change what you do. Just keep on doing your size your way. I got the idea when I saw Rod's three 5"x7" boards and they were all so different. Some of us don't change much in style and others of us vary massively so it could be a real challenge.

The moderator (volunteers please ) will receive all pictures and names to go with them, then post all pictures at same size, not telling us whether they are like Rod's murals or my miniatures, and all names will be randomly listed below at the bottom of the post. You can do b&w, colour, whatever. Use whatever subject matter you want as there are enough wildlife artists among us so my wildlife won't instantly be pegged as me etc etc. Rod may have to do something non mechanical as he's pretty much the main one who does them.

Re: Recognition challenge

Man-o-man this is going to be fun! I agree. This will force me out of what I normally do but I'm very cool with that. If fact I think of it as a great challenge. A chance to grow. I've been watching admiring enjoying and hopefully learning. Let's all have some great fun with this! Newbies! Welcome to our little playground! PLEASE do!!! This should be a hoot!!! Could we still ask each other for help and not tell them what your doing? I just want to be fair! Lol!

Re: Recognition challenge

Rod, if you can find a way of doing that, sure thing.

Cathy, thanks a lot. That would be great though a shame you won't be doing it yourself then.

I reckon have a deadline for finishing pieces and submitting them to Cathy in say three weeks time. That way we can pick up a few more entries (I reckon we would need about a dozen to make it harder to pick) and it gives people a bit of time to work on something without making them rush.

Re: Recognition challenge

So we could start now and should submit before Sept 14th?? Then Cathy could post on the 15th (Mon)?? That's just over 3 weeks.

This IS going to be fun...thanks for thinking of it Patrick and thanks for agreeing to moderate it Cathy!
